our beliefs

We believe that doctrinal beliefs are more than just religious teaching, instruction or suggestions; they are the governing authority for our lives from the Word of God.

This is why TRIUMPH CHURCH submits to the teachings of Christ, who authored and affirmed the scriptures we adhere to.

All programs and activities of Triumph Church are governed and based upon the following beliefs as outlined in the Bible.

our beliefs

The Church

The Bible states that the body of Christ is made up of Christians. These individuls are as Jesus said in John 3, those who have become "Born Again". It is that Christian body that makes up the church. The church is not a religion, denomination, or a building but is made up of Christians who live their lives in accordance of the Bible. Every person who follows Jesus, who has repented of their sins and accepted Him as Lord, as stated in Romans 10:9-10, has become a part of the church and a member of the body of believers. There is only one head of the church, Jesus Christ. Jesus is the Chief Shepherd. He said that He would build His Church. Ephesians 1:22, 2:19-22; Hebrews 12:23; John 17:11, 20-23

Holy Bible

The Holy Bible is the Word of God. It alone is the final authority in determining all doctrinal truths. No man, no religious leader, no matter their position, may add or take away that which God put in His Word by the Holy Spirit. In its original writing, it is inspired, infallible and inerrant. II Timothy 3:16; II Peter 1:20-21; Proverbs 30:5; Romans 16:25-26

The Trinity

There is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and co-eternal. I John 5:7; Genesis 1:26; Matthew 3:16-17, 28:19; Luke 1:35; Isaiah 9:6; Hebrews 3:7-11

The Father

We believe in God the Father that He is a Spirit, perfect in love, holiness, justice, and grace. We believe that He is all-knowing and all-powerful. We believe that He cares for humanity deeply. He hears and answers our prayers, and He offers salvation from sin and spiritual death through Jesus Christ. Psalms 103:13, John 20:17, Galatians 1:1; 4:6-7, Ephesians 4:6, Romans 8:14, 2 Corinthians 6:18

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is God the Son, the second person of the Trinity. On earth, Jesus was 100% God and 100% man. He was born of a virgin into the world, lived a sinless life, performed miracles, died on the cross for mankind, and through this, paid the penalty for our sins by the shedding of His blood. According to the Scriptures, he rose from the dead on the third day and as witnessed by over 500 people, ascended to the right hand of the Father and will return again in power and glory. John 1:1,14, 20:28; I Timothy 3:16; Isaiah 9:6; Philippians 2:5-6; I Timothy 2:5

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity.  His purpose, as outlined by Jesus, is to empower, equip, help, and lead the Christian to live their life to their fullest potential in accordance with God's Word. Acts 1:4-8, John 14:15-18; 16:5-15

Virgin Birth

Jesus Christ was conceived by God the Father through the Holy Spirit (the third person of the Trinity) in the virgin Mary's womb; through this, He was 100% man and 100% God making Him alone the Son of God and Mediator between God and man. Matthew 1:18, 25; Luke 1:27-35; Isaiah 7:14

Mankind

Man was created good and upright in the image of God, but by voluntary transgression, man fell, and this sin infected all humanity; our only hope of redemption is in Jesus Christ. Genesis 1:17; 1:26-31

Sin

Our sin has separated us from God and His purpose for our lives. As a result, man cannot attain a right relationship with God through his own effort, works, or religious rituals. Romans 3:23; 6:23, Ephesians 2:1, Ephesians 4:18

Salvation

We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone: through His death, burial, and resurrection. Salvation is a gift from God available to everyone. It is not a result of or can be obtained by our good works or of any human efforts. Ephesians 2:8-9; Galatians 2:16, 3:8; Titus 3:5; Romans 5:12-21, 10:9-10; Acts 16:31; Hebrews 9:22, John 3:16-17

Repentance

Repentance is the commitment to turn away from sin in every area of our lives and to follow Christ and live our lives in accordance of the Bible. Through repentance, we receive forgiveness of sins and salvation through Jesus. No man or religious leader can forgive the sins of man. Jesus alone can forgive sin. Acts 2:21, 3:19; I John 1:9

Sanctification

Sanctification is yielding to God’s Word and His Spirit which develops Christ's character in us. By the power of the Holy Spirit, we are able to obey the command, "Be ye holy, for I am holy." It is through the present ministry of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God that a believer is enabled to live a godly life and bear the fruits of His righteousness. I Thessalonians 4:3, 5:23; II Corinthians 3:18, 6:16,18; Romans 8:29, 12:1-2; Hebrews 2:11; Philippians 3:12-14; I Corinthians 1:30

Jesus' Sacrifice

The sacrifice Jesus made by dying on the cross and shedding His blood for you and I is 100% sufficient to cleanse mankind of all sin, past, present, and future. Jesus allowed Himself to be punished for both our sinfulness and our sins, enabling all those who believe to be free from the penalty of sin, which is death, and eternal separation from God in Hell. I John 1:7; Revelation 1:5, 5:9; Colossians 1:20; Romans 3:10-12, 23, 5:9; John 1:29

Jesus Christ Indwells All Believers

Christians are people who have invited Jesus Christ to change them by His Holy Spirit. They relinquish the authority of their lives over to Him, thus making Jesus the Lord of their life and Saviour. They put their trust in what Jesus accomplished for them when He died, was buried, and rose again from the dead. John 1:12; John 14:17, 23; John 15:4; Romans 8:11; Revelation 3:20

Baptism Of The Holy Spirit

Revealed at Pentecost, the Holy Spirit is the promise of the Father, sent by Jesus after His Ascension to Heaven, to empower the Church, His body, to preach the Gospel throughout the whole earth. The Holy Spirit is available to all believers and is evidenced by speaking in tongues, a heavenly prayer language. Joel 2:28-29; Matthew 3:11; Mark 16:17; Acts 1:5, 8, 2:1-4, 17, 38-39, 8:14-17, 10:38, 44-47, 11:15-17, 19:1-6; John 14:16-17

Gifts Of The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is manifested through a variety of spiritual gifts to build and sanctify the church, demonstrate the validity of the resurrection and confirm the power of the Gospel. All believers are commanded to earnestly desire the manifestation of the gifts in their lives. These gifts always operate in harmony with the Scriptures and should never be used in violation of Biblical parameters. Hebrews 2:4; Romans 1:11, 12 :4-8; Ephesians 4:16; I Timothy 4:14; II Timothy 1:6-7; I Corinthians 12:1-31, 14:1-40; I Peter 4:10

Sacraments

Water Baptism: Following salvation, through faith in Jesus Christ, the Bible instructs the new believer to be baptised in water in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. This serves to symbolise the abandonment of ones old sinful life and taking on a new life following Christ. Matthew 28:19; Acts 2:38; Mark 16:16; Acts 8:12, 36-38; 10:47-48

The Lord's Supper: The Holy Communion, received in the presence of God through the elements of bread and juice (representing the Body and Blood of Jesus) is taken in remembrance of Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. Matthew 26:26-29; I Corinthians 10:16, 11:23-25

Marriage: We believe marriage is defined in the Bible as a covenant, a sacred bond between one man and one woman, instituted by and publicly entered into before God. We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to only occur between a man and a woman, and who are married to each other. We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of marriage. We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ. We believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity. Hateful and harassing behaviour or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be repudiated and are not in accord with scripture nor the doctrines of the church. Genesis 2:18-24; Matthew 19:4-6

Healing Of The Sick

Healing of the sick is illustrated in the life and ministry of Jesus and included in the commission of Jesus to His disciples. It is given as a sign, which is to follow believers. It is also a part of Jesus' work on the Cross and one of the gifts of the Spirit. Psalm 103:2-3; Isaiah 53:5; Matthew 8:16-17; Mark 16:17-18; Acts 8:6-7; James 5:14-16; I Corinthians 12:9, 28; Romans 11:29

God's Will For Provision

Jesus instructed His followers of God's will concerning provision in Matthew 6:25-34. Jesus made it clear that for those who seek first the kingdom of God that He would care for what it is they had need of. The Apostle Paul reiterated this in Philippians 4:19 in stating that God would provide for all you need.

Resurrection

Jesus Christ was physically resurrected from the dead in a glorified body three days after His death on the cross. In addition, both the saved and the lost will be resurrected; those who are saved- to the resurrection of life and those who are lost- to the resurrection of eternal separation from God. Luke 24:16, 36, 39; John 2:19-21, 20:26-28, 21:4; Acts 24:15; I Corinthians 15:42, 44; Philippians 1:21-23, 3:21

Hell

After living one life on earth, unbelievers (those who have rejected Jesus) will be judged by God and then spend eternity in Hell along with satan and his fallen angels where there is never-ending torment. Matthew 25:41; Mark 9:43-48; Hebrews 9:27; Revelation 14:9-11, 20:12-15, 21:8
