Building A Solid Foundation

No matter who we are, having a sure foundation that we build our lives on is essential to our stability both mentally and spiritually. Since the outbreak of COVID and the following measures the majority of governments have taken, there has been so much instability throughout the world. Staying out of the conversation of if they should or should not have taken these measures, in the wake of these measures perhaps the spread of covid has been slowed, but what no one can argue is the toll it's taken on us all mentally and spiritually.

If you are on any social media or watch any of the news channels fear is prevalent. That is because the foundation many have built their lives on is constantly shifting. That foundation is built on the shifting philosophies of men. This world doesn’t have the answers any of us are looking for. We can’t even get a clear answer in how to proceed with Covid, much less answers about our eternity. At this moment most governments are placing all their trust in a vaccine which here in Ireland our government has stated that even with the vaccine you may still contract Covid and pass Covid. It's abundantly clear that many don't have the answers.

They said we’ll close for only a couple weeks then its a month, then months, now it's been over a year with no real end in sight. We open limitedly only to begin to close again. Listen, people are people. They make decisions perhaps with the best intentions, but there is no stability in putting all your eggs in this worlds basket. That should be a clear message after 2020.

Jesus warns us of the dangers of building our foundation on shifting ground. No intelligent builder is going to build a structure they want to last on a foundation that is constantly shifting. The unsure foundation will shift, weakening the structure and eventually destroy it. Jesus likened trying to build your life's foundation on the things of this world like building on sand. Sand is unstable. It’s constantly shifting. It’s moved by every wind and the weather. A structure built on sand may last while the weather is good, but it more than likely will never survive a storm.

How do you keep your foundation from shifting? How do you build a solid foundation? You can only do it by building your life upon God’s Word. Only God can bring stability in your life.

This is what Jesus said in Mathew 7:24-27

24 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.

25 Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock.

26 But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand.

27 When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”

I have great news for you today. You don’t have to play by this worlds rules. In fact, I strongly urge you not to. Their rules and ideas are always shifting like the sands of the beach, completely unstable and undependable. God gives us security and a firm foundation to build our lives on which is unaffected by life's storms. I want to encourage you today. Turn off the news, it's only bad news anyways, tune out all the distractions and bombardment of fear and begin to read the Bible. Put your faith and trust in God, and build your life on the bible. This storm will pass, but we can be assured in this world another will come.

Here's some advice that has held to the test of time. Read God's word daily, then speak His truth from His word over your life and your family. Then pray and thank God for bringing His word to pass in your life. Do this and you’ll not only survive the storms of life, but you’ll thrive!
